I'm having an issue on my 2014 Ford Focus where by if the car is under high load (like going up a steep hill or accelerating hard) a noticeable hissing noise is present and then a warning pops up "Engine Malfunction Warning - Service Now". As soon as the message appears, the hissing stops and the car is noticeably restricted. It's a Ford Focus Mk2 1.6 TDCi 66 kw (DA3/GDPA1P/5KACMP diesel to be specific), 2010. The car had done 10,000 miles in that time however it was purchased from a reputable dealer who had serviced the car, and as i say it was a Ford Direct car. About 3 years ago I stated having the following problem: while driving normally at around 30-40 km/h the engine suddenly shuts off completely in the middle of the road (!) without any previous warning and the "engine malfunction service now" message appears.
